Kindergarten - 2nd Grade: The Doorway to School Success
Rolling Hills Academy’s mission is realized when each student actively pursues his or her own personal formation. Our educational tradition emphasizes the responsibility of each individual in achieving his or her full potential.
During these early years of growth and childhood development, special attention is given to the individuality of each student as so many new academic skills are introduced. Since the good habits and attitudes formed in these years remain through adulthood, Rolling Hills Academy aims to cultivate honesty, dedication, cheerfulness, reverence and perseverance.
Students explore and discover their individuality in Kindergarten through second grade. Excellence in reading and writing are a priority, with a phonics-based language arts program that builds strong phonemic awareness, listening, viewing, and speaking skills. As students learn to read and write, they will begin to develop study habits that they will need throughout the rest of their school years--such as learning to take notes in class, copying from the board, and maintaining basic homework schedules. Combined with a strong foundational math curriculum, the success our students have in reading, writing, and speaking will launch them into the exciting world of other core subjects in the areas of literature, history, science, geography, and the arts.
Our Catholic faith is always integral to a Rolling Hills education, and our second-grade students receive specific formation to prepare them for their First Reconciliation and First Communion. With great excitement and reverence, our teachers and students share in these sacraments together, and joyfully discover the blessings that come from actively participating in our faith community. With such a beautiful doorway to success, our students move forward in their academic experience with Christ as the model and center of all their efforts.
