3rd - 5th Grade: Building upon the Foundation
Designed to build on the foundation of our primary program, the third through fifth grade curriculum emphasizes strong academics, increasing individual responsibility for learning, and expanding opportunities for leadership and service.
These intermediate years provide the tools necessary to prepare Rolling Hills Academy students to enter a demanding environment of a rigorous middle school program. Our 3rd - 5th grade educators understand the transitional nature of the academic and social environment in these grade levels, and continue to use personal attention and nurturing encouragement to help students develop a solid foundation based on character, faith, social responsibility, problem-solving, and critical thinking.
As the curriculum in 3rd - 5th grades continues to challenge students to reach high academic levels, we seek to build confidence through opportunities in athletics, academic competitions, public speaking, performing, and mentoring, and to instill a love of service to the community and each other. Core subjects expand further into literature studies, creative writing, formal grammar instruction, mental math and solving equations, world cultures and geography, and reading analysis and comprehension.
A successful 3rd - 5th grader at Rolling Hills Academy will become a self motivated learner by showing initiative towards his or her studies and homework. These transitional years support students in their efforts to become reliable, responsible and independent learners. Charity, respect for others, an active faith life, and hard work also guide their formation. These foundations in study skills, academic content, and a deep love for Christ and service to others will last a lifetime!
